This year! 2020. What am I thankful for?
We didn't have global thermonuclear war.
That's a good thing.

But we had a global pandemic instead.
With a quarter of a million Americans dead.
But this is what I'm thankful for:
That so many people voted to help one another —
nurses, and grocery clerks, and healthcare workers —
dedicated to seeing us all pull through.
I'm thankful for them.

Our leaders, not so much.
They fumbled and fussed, denied and lied.
White vultures circled overhead.
Around the White House, with it's
brand new fence.
Hopefully, to keep the riff-raff in.

I'm thankful that the wheel has turned.
I'm hopeful that all the walls might come down.
Really, I'm thankful that I can still be hopeful
this year.
For the next one.
